Railway complexity and
integration
Railways present complex systems and are characterized by a large
number of internal and external interfaces. In addition to this
technical and operational complexity, Europa has introduced a
liberalized regulatory environment for railways. The effect of this
liberalization has been over the last 20 years, that railways are no
longer treated as an integrated system, but responsibilities for
separate parts and functions within the railway system have been
distributed over many organizations. The management of the
interfaces has become more important, but at the same time more
difficult, because different organization need to co-operate to make
the railway system work as a whole. This web site aims at bringing back together in one single spot the expertise that is needed to manage the railway interfaces. In this way this web site can facilitate the parties in the railway sector to make the railway system work as an integrated system. |
